Set up a pre-recorded talk

Written by Benjamin Dell

You can run a HeySummit event with a mix of live and pre-recorded talks. A pre-recorded talk plays at its scheduled broadcast time, and attendees can still use interactive features such as chat, Q&A, and polls unless you turn those off for the talk or event.

HeySummit does not usually upload and host the video file itself. Instead, add the video from a supported provider by pasting the provider URL, video ID, or embed code, depending on the provider you choose.

Set the talk to pre-recorded

  1. Open your event dashboard.

  2. Go to Content > Talks.

  3. Open the ... menu next to the talk and choose Manage Talk.

  4. In the broadcast setup, choose Pre-Recorded.

  5. Choose the video provider you want to use.

  6. Paste the video URL or ID into the video field. If you choose Embed Code, paste the full embed code instead.

  7. Save the talk.

Tips

  • For many providers, you can paste the full video URL and HeySummit will store the correct video ID automatically.

  • For providers that need a specific ID format, use the linked help article in the video source picker.

  • Use HTML5 Video only when you have a direct video-file URL. For more detail, see HTML5 Video problem.

  • Before attendees see the talk, use the preview option to confirm the video plays as expected.
