Start a live or pre-recorded talk

Use the right launch action for the talk's delivery type and test host and speaker access before broadcast.

Written by Holly

How a talk starts depends on the broadcast type you configured. Check the talk before the event so the host, speakers, and attendees all use the correct route.

Start a native webinar

  1. Go to Content > Talks and find the talk.

  2. When the live window opens, choose Launch Webinar to open the host's start URL in the connected webinar provider.

  3. Speakers and panelists should use their own reminder-email or Speaker Dashboard links. Do not send them the host start URL.

Start a live stream

For HeyStream, choose Open Studio from the talk. For another live-stream or custom-stream setup, start and control the broadcast in the production service you configured; attendees watch through the destination set on the talk.

Run a pre-recorded talk

A pre-recorded talk does not need a host to start it manually. Once its video source is saved, HeySummit makes it available on the talk page during the scheduled broadcast window. Speakers only need to attend if you have asked them to help with chat, Q&A, or polls.

Test before the event

  • Use Preview to check the attendee experience.

  • Open Copy Broadcast Links from Content > Talks and confirm the host, speaker, panelist, and moderator links you expect are available.

  • Run a dry run early enough to correct account, camera, microphone, or stream settings before the scheduled start.
