Synchronized Start Times for Pre-recorded Videos

Written by Holly

A scheduled pre-recorded session can feel like a live broadcast: supported players start near the point calculated from the session’s scheduled start time, rather than always starting at the beginning.

What happens when someone joins late

If a session started ten minutes ago, a supported player such as Wistia, Vimeo or YouTube can seek to roughly ten minutes into the recording. Refreshing the normal broadcast page recalculates that elapsed time. Playback may also be brought back towards the scheduled position when it resumes or the browser tab becomes active.

Limits to expect

  • This applies to supported players during a scheduled pre-recorded broadcast. It does not apply in the same way to replays, on-demand library content or organiser previews.

  • Player support, loading, network conditions and browser playback restrictions can affect when video begins. Attendees are not guaranteed to see the final frame at exactly the same instant.

  • The recording should fit the session’s configured duration. A shorter video or incorrect schedule can make the viewing experience confusing.

See setting up a pre-recorded session and checking video settings. Use an existing authorised attendee on the normal session page to assess scheduled playback; organiser preview is useful for source and layout checks.
