What happens when a speaker or talk is inactive?

Written by Benjamin Dell

If a speaker or talk is marked inactive, HeySummit hides it from the public event site. Direct links to inactive talk pages or speaker profiles can return a not found page, because inactive records are not available for attendees to view.

For a talk to be publicly available, the talk must be active and not cancelled. In most event types it also needs a scheduled date and at least one active speaker. For a speaker to appear publicly, the speaker must be active and, depending on your Speaker Settings, may also need to be linked to an active talk.

Check the speaker

  1. Go to Content > Speakers.

  2. Open the speaker record.

  3. Make sure Active? is ticked.

  4. Save your changes.

Check the talk

  1. Go to Content > Talks.

  2. Open the three-dot menu for the talk and choose Advanced Settings.

  3. In Visibility and Display, make sure Is Active? is ticked.

  4. Save your changes.

After both records are active, try the public link again. If the page is still not available, also check whether the talk is cancelled, unscheduled, missing an active speaker, or still an unapproved speaker submission.

If you intentionally want to hide a speaker or talk without deleting it, leaving the record inactive is the right option.
