Use Send to an External URL for a talk

Written by Benjamin Dell

Use Send to an External URL when you want attendees to leave the HeySummit talk page and join a session on another platform, such as a webinar, meeting, livestream, or community tool.

You do not need to set up a HeySummit webinar host or connect a webinar provider under Event Setup for this option. HeySummit simply sends attendees to the URL you provide when the talk is available.

Set up the talk

  1. Create the session in the external platform you want to use, then copy the attendee link.

  2. In HeySummit, go to Content > Talks.

  3. Create a new talk or open the talk you want to update.

  4. In the broadcast options, go to Advanced Options and choose Send to an External URL.

  5. Paste the attendee link into the External URL field and save the talk.

What attendees experience

When the talk is available, attendees use the talk page in HeySummit and are redirected to the external URL. The external platform controls what happens next, including any registration, waiting room, password, host approval, or join requirements.

Before you go live

  • Open the attendee link in a private browser window to check the full join flow.

  • Make sure the external platform is configured the way you want attendees to enter the session.

  • Ask hosts and speakers to join early for a camera, microphone, and screen-share check.

If you want the video to remain embedded on the HeySummit talk page, use one of HeySummit's supported embedded live stream or pre-recorded video options instead.
