Set up tax and billing details for event tickets

Configure a fixed sales-tax rate, checkout billing fields, and organiser details for attendee invoices.

Written by Benjamin Dell

HeySummit can calculate and display sales tax for event tickets, but it does not choose the correct rate or determine your tax obligations. The event organiser is responsible for using the right rate and meeting local tax and invoice requirements.

Choose how tax applies to ticket prices

  1. Go to Event Setup > Settings.

  2. Open Billing & Tax Settings.

  3. Under Sales Tax Pricing Mode, choose No Sales Tax, Tax Included in Ticket Prices, or Tax Added at Checkout.

  4. If you choose an inclusive or exclusive mode, enter the fixed Sales Tax Rate (%) for the event.

  5. Save the settings and test a paid checkout before opening ticket sales.

Understand the three pricing modes

  • No Sales Tax: HeySummit does not calculate a tax amount for the order.

  • Tax Included in Ticket Prices: the ticket price already includes the configured tax rate. Checkout and invoices show the included tax breakdown.

  • Tax Added at Checkout: HeySummit adds the configured tax rate after discounts and shows it separately before the order total.

The rate is one fixed event-level percentage. HeySummit does not automatically choose a different ticket-tax rate from the attendee's location.

Collect attendee billing information

In the same settings panel, turn on Require Attendee Billing Address? when paid-ticket buyers must provide a billing address. Turn on Ask Attendees for Sales Tax ID? to show an optional VAT/Sales Tax ID field during paid checkout. Information the attendee provides is included on their invoice.

Add your organiser details to receipts and invoices

Use Your Company Details to add your trading name, address, company registration number, and VAT/GST/tax number. Saved details appear on payment receipts and downloadable invoices. Attendees normally access invoices from their Purchases area; you can disable those invoices if you issue your own documents instead.

Before publishing paid tickets

Confirm the rate and invoice wording with a qualified tax adviser for the places where you sell tickets. HeySummit's settings apply the values you enter; they are not location-based tax advice or automatic tax registration.
