Use an encoder such as OBS Studio when you want to combine cameras, screen sharing, videos, images, music, or overlays before sending a live stream to your audience. The encoder produces the stream on your computer, your streaming provider receives it, and HeySummit embeds the provider's public stream on the talk page.
Set up the encoder and streaming provider
Create or schedule the stream with the provider you plan to use.
In OBS, open Settings > Stream. Choose the provider, or choose a custom streaming server when the provider requires one.
Enter the server URL and stream key supplied by the streaming provider. Keep the stream key private: it allows software to broadcast to your channel.
Build your OBS scenes and sources, then test the video and audio before the event. See the official OBS Studio overview for current encoder setup guidance.
Add the public stream to HeySummit
In your HeySummit dashboard, go to Content > Talks.
Open the ... menu beside the talk and choose Manage Talk.
Choose Live Stream, then select the streaming provider.
Paste the public stream URL, stream ID, or embed code requested by that provider. Do not paste the private stream key into this field.
Save the talk and preview it before going live. For the full provider list and field guidance, see Embed a live stream in your event.
Before going live
Run a private end-to-end test from OBS to the streaming provider and then to the HeySummit talk page.
Check your upload connection, provider bitrate limits, audio levels, and the attendee view.
Have one person monitor the public stream while another controls the encoder whenever possible.
