Review and export session chat and poll activity

Understand session participation totals, filter by session date, and export poll answers or chat messages in one CSV.

Written by Benjamin Dell

Use the Chat & Polls report to review participation across your sessions and export poll answers or chat messages for several sessions in one CSV.

Open the report

In your event dashboard, go to Content & Schedule > Reports > Chat & Polls. The report covers session activity from main and alternative broadcasts, including retained history from previously separate rooms. Shared activity is counted once. Stage dates and the event lobby are not included.

Choose the sessions to include

  1. Open the filter button beside the report tabs.

  2. Use Session to select one session, or leave All sessions selected.

  3. Set Date from and Date to if you want a range, then choose Filter. Use Reset to remove the filters.

The date range selects each session's scheduled date in the event timezone. It does not restrict when individual answers or messages were submitted. Later replay answers are included for the selected sessions.

Understand the totals

  • Polls counts polls, including drafts and polls without responses.

  • Unique respondents counts each person once across the selected polls and rooms, even if they answered several polls.

  • Poll responses counts individual answers.

  • Chat messages counts retained chat messages for the selected sessions.

Export polls or chat

  1. Apply the session and date filters you need.

  2. Choose Export polls or Export chat.

  3. HeySummit prepares one CSV for the selected sessions and emails you a download link when it is ready.

  • The poll CSV includes questions, individual answers and unanswered polls.

  • The chat CSV includes retained messages and sender details.

  • Session dates use the event timezone. Response and message timestamps use UTC.

  • Deleted messages and cleared poll responses are unavailable in the report and exports.

When totals are refreshing or unavailable

Completed totals are normally cached for two minutes. During a refresh or after a refresh error, the page can keep older completed totals and labels them accordingly. Export files read the latest available records when they are prepared. If the report cannot load, try again or request an export. Unavailable values do not mean there was no activity.
