Set up SMS reminders for attendees

Enable opt-in SMS reminders, understand SMS credit, and keep reminders sending.

Written by Benjamin Dell

SMS reminders let attendees opt in to receive a text shortly before their first selected talk on each event day. Use them when you want to give attendees a timely prompt without sending a message before every talk.

Before you start

  • SMS reminders are available on active paid HeySummit plans.

  • HeySummit currently sends SMS reminders to supported mobile numbers in the United Kingdom, United States, and Canada.

  • Each attendee must enter a mobile number and opt in during checkout or from their attendee profile.

  • Your account needs enough SMS credit for the reminder to be sent.

Turn on SMS reminders

  1. Open your event dashboard and go to Setup.

  2. Find SMS Reminders and click Update.

  3. Review the estimated reminder volume and your current SMS credit balance.

  4. Turn on Enable SMS reminders?.

  5. Click Save.

What attendees receive

  • An opted-in attendee receives one SMS reminder shortly before their first selected talk on each event day.

  • If an attendee selects several talks on the same day, HeySummit does not send a separate SMS before every talk.

  • Attendees can opt in during checkout or from their profile. They can opt out by replying STOP or by changing their profile preference.

  • Message and data rates may apply.

Understand SMS credit

  • Each sent reminder uses SMS credit. Current USD costs are $0.08 for the United Kingdom, $0.017 for the United States, and $0.022 for Canada. Accounts billed in another currency see the converted amount in their billing currency.

  • The Success plan includes $50 of monthly SMS credit. This allowance resets each billing period.

  • All active paid plans can buy additional one-off SMS credit. One-off credit does not expire.

  • From Billing, you can buy credit manually or enable automatic top-ups. Automatic top-ups require billing details and a saved card.

  • If your balance runs out, SMS reminders pause until you add credit or a configured automatic top-up succeeds.

Check volume and delivery

  • The SMS Reminders panel estimates sends from the current schedule and attendee opt-ins.

  • If the estimate is above the event fair-usage allowance, some reminders may pause unless HeySummit approves additional capacity.

  • If attendees cannot see the opt-in, confirm that SMS reminders are enabled and that their mobile-number country is supported.

  • If reminders stop, check your SMS credit and automatic top-up status in Billing.
