Add Google Analytics to your event site

Written by Benjamin Dell

Use HeySummit's built-in tracking provider to add Google Analytics 4 tracking to your public event pages without pasting the full Google tag snippet.

  1. In Google Analytics, create or open the web data stream for the domain you use for your event. Copy the Google tag ID / Measurement ID. For GA4, this usually starts with G-. Google explains where to find it here.

  2. In HeySummit, go to Event Setup > Integrations.

  3. In the Paid Ad Conversion Pixels card, click Add.

  4. Choose Google Tag Manager as the tracking provider.

  5. Paste your Google tag ID / Measurement ID into Tracking Provider ID. Do not paste the full Google tag code block into this field.

  6. Save the provider.

HeySummit loads Google's gtag.js script for that ID on your public event pages. The built-in provider can also send conversion events when an attendee enters their email address, completes registration, or purchases a paid ticket. You can leave the default event names in place or edit them in the Conversion Events fields.

Important things to note

  • Visitor counts can differ between HeySummit, Google Analytics, and other analytics platforms because each platform identifies visitors and sessions differently.

  • If your event uses the cookie consent banner, tracking scripts load only after the visitor accepts tracking cookies. Browser privacy settings and ad blockers can also affect what Google Analytics records.

  • If Google gives you a full custom code snippet, a Google Tag Manager container, or custom tracking instructions that do not fit the built-in provider, use Event Setup > Settings > Custom JavaScript instead. Custom JavaScript is added at your own risk, and you are responsible for any privacy or data-processing notices required for the scripts you add.
