Why Do Attendee Names Show a Dot in Zoom?

Written by Jerica

If you see a dot after an attendee's name in a live Zoom session, for example Hannah ., it means Zoom received a first name but no usable last name for that attendee.

HeySummit sends Zoom separate first_name and last_name values when registering attendees for Zoom webinars or meetings. If HeySummit cannot derive a last name from the attendee record, it sends a dot (.) as the last-name placeholder so Zoom can still register the attendee successfully.

This is most likely to happen when an attendee was imported, manually created, edited, or otherwise saved without a separate last name. Standard registration asks for both first and last name, but older records or custom workflows can still leave the last-name value blank.

To prevent this, make sure your registration and profile labels clearly ask attendees for both first and last name. You can review those labels in Content > Translations, including the first-name and last-name prompts.

For existing attendees, update the attendee record so the last name is stored separately before the attendee is registered with Zoom again.
