Use Webex with HeySummit live talks

Written by Benjamin Dell

You can use Webex with HeySummit live talks in two ways: connect Webex as a native webinar host, or send attendees to a Webex link that you manage yourself.

Use the native host option when you want HeySummit to create and manage the Webex webinar for the talk. Use the external URL option when you have already scheduled the Webex session yourself or want attendees to leave HeySummit and join through Webex directly.

Option 1: Connect Webex as a native host

A native Webex host lets HeySummit use your connected Webex account for live talks. This is the best path when you want the talk to stay part of the normal HeySummit live-session flow.

  1. In HeySummit, go to Event Setup > Webinar Hosts.

  2. Choose Add Host.

  3. Select Webex and connect the Webex account you want to use.

  4. When you create or edit a live talk, select that Webex host for the talk.

  5. Save the talk and check the talk setup before your event starts.

Your Webex account needs permission to create Webex webinars. If Webex says the connected user does not have host privileges, check the Webex account plan and permissions, then reconnect the host in HeySummit if needed.

Option 2: Send attendees to an existing Webex link

Use this path when you have already created the meeting or webinar in Webex, or when you deliberately want to manage the live session outside the native HeySummit host connection.

  1. Schedule the session in Webex.

  2. Copy the Webex meeting or webinar link.

  3. In HeySummit, go to Content > Talks and open the talk you want to update.

  4. Set the talk broadcast option to send attendees to an external URL.

  5. Paste the Webex link and save the talk.

With an external Webex URL, attendees are sent to Webex and may need to follow the join or registration flow configured in Webex. HeySummit is not creating that Webex session for you, so check the attendee flow in Webex before your event goes live.
